Objectives
One of the objectives of Agro Business Center for Research and Development (ABC RnD) is to bring revolution in the agriculture sector in Nepal. With this objective, the company was established with a lab facility to produce tissue culture plants and mushroom spawns at Kalimati, Kathmandu. It has occupied 20 Ropanies of land in Wokharpauwa which lies 19 km away from the capital city and also occupies more than twenty five Bighas of land in Chitwan District which is about 4 hours drive from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. In a short span of time, it has successfully demonstrated in producing and growing different type of tissue culture plants such as orchids, cut flowers, bananas and button/oyster/shitake mushrooms. It has plans to further open up a 'Krishi Pathshala' to impart basic knowledge and modern technique of agriculture to the farmers who are undergoing traditional method of farming. Apart from research works and production of tissue culture plants and good quality mushroom seeds, the company is also engaged in imparting training in the field of growing vegetables, cut flowers, orchids, tissue culture banana plants, strawberry, different varieties of mushroom, and making of high quality compost by using EM and vermin-culture method. Other important objective is to discourage farmers from using harmful chemicals and pesticides.
Tissue Culture Technology
Plant tissue culture is the method for rapid propagation of plants under controlled conditions. Tissue from selected mother plants are collected and cultured for multiplication of cloned plants. The micro shoots produced in the culture room will be acclimatized and sand rooted in the green house for production of tissue culture plants. Sand rooting is an efficient technique for mass propagation of cloned plants.
ABC R&D and its specialties
The company is situated in the heart of the city and is just 13 km away from Tribhuvan International Airport. It has a capacity to produce 2 million tissue cultured plants and thousands of pkts of mushroom spawns annually. It has land of its own to experiment its products within and outside the outskirts of Kathmandu where its results are encouraging. Chitwan is just three four hours drive from Kathmandu. Commercially grown tissue cultured bananas is showing very successful results. Bananas are being sold at very good price all over the country. Similarly carnations, roses and aster cut flowers are also fetching good price in Kathmandu local market. Highly qualified and experienced tissue culture scientist are working in the field of bio-technology especially in micro propagation and tissue culture of different plants. Agro Business Center for Research and Development is committed to produce high quality plants and mushroom spawns in a hygienic condition which is marketed all over the country.
ABC R&D will undertake
Research works are under taken regarding micro-propagation in the production of horticulture, foliage plantation crops and also develop various type of mushroom spawns in the lab under the request of different organizations, companies, and individuals.
ABC R&D will impart
• Training to science students (graduate & undergraduate) enabling them to undertake micro-propagation projects and find employment in other tissue culture factories.
• Training on cultivation of tissue culture banana plants
• Training on the cultivation of different type of mushroom such as button, shitake, agaricus bisporus and oyster
• Training on the cultivation of off season vegetables
• Training on the cultivation of strawberry production
• Training on production of compost using vermin - culture and EM (Effective Micro-organism)

ABC R&D will entertain
• Advance orders for 5000 to 25000 tissue cultured plants have to be placed before six months. Higher volumes have to be confirmed one year in advance.
• Mushroom seeds can be ordered fifteen days in advance depending on the volume of packets.
• Fifty percent advance should be made through LC/Bank draft/cash upon placement of the order.
The Birth
Agro Business Center for Research and Development Pvt. Ltd. (ABC R&D) was born on May 27, 2005 under the company act 2053 in response to meet the market demand for varieties of high quality plants and mushroom spawns. The tissue culture technology has indicated that this technology can play a vital role for the economic growth of the country by providing tissue culture plants in agriculture sector thereby producing high yielding cash crops such as bananas, sugarcane, cardamoms, ginger, potato, cut flower plants, orchids and mushroom spawns.
